What Music Is Your Muse?

Hello my fellow writers. I have a question for you in today’s post. Do you listen to music when you write? If so, what music is your muse?

As for me, I listen to music all the time when I write. For me, music really helps evoke the emotions I’m trying to convey in my stories and characters. I listen to all kinds of music  and my tastes are quite varied. One day I could be listening to rock bands like Theory Of A Dead Man, Five Finger Death Punch, Disturbed or Stained and the next I’m listening to Josh Groban or Michael Buble. And the next I’m listening to Christian artists Skillet, Red, Toby Mac, Hollyn and Fireflight. Then I can turn around and listen to Rascal Flatts, Jo Dee Messina, and Carrie Underwood. It all just depends what I’m in the mood for and what makes the words flow the most. One artist in particular that has always helped with this is Sarah McLachlan. I honestly don’t know why it is so inspiring to me but every time I listen to her music the words just flow and flow and flow.

I think depending upon what we are trying to portray, music digs deep down into our hearts and souls to bring those emotions to the surface.  Lyrics of course play a big part also. Between music and lyrics it all has to gel into the perfect intoxicating brew.

Here is a list of some of my current favorite artists and songs that spark my muse.
