So far in the past few weeks, we have talked about having an author website, having a blog, and using a free or paid theme. These all go hand in hand.
The website has a theme which is like the framework for your site so you know how to organize your information and where to put it and the blog is how you interact with your readers. This week I’m going to talk about your email and give you my top three reasons why you need one.
First off, what is an email list? An email list is a list of people who subscribe to your newsletter. These people choose to opt-in to get your newsletter every week or month.
Having subscribers means you have built a relationship with them and they trust you. They like your work and are interested in what you have to say or offer, and this is very important.
Setting up a subscribe button and linking it to your newsletter isn’t hard. You have to decide who you are going to use for your email auto-responder.
There are many companies to choose from like Mailchimp, ConvertKit, Constant Contact, etc. Each company has different ways of setting one up, so follow the instructions from the company you choose.
Another important not is to make sure you have an opt-in. I didn’t have one for the longest time because I didn’t know what one was or that it was crucial to have one. A
n opt-in is something that you give your readers for signing up for your newsletter.
In my case right now, it’s a publishing checklist. I’m working on a new opt-in that will be a short e-book on publishing a book which I’m excited about.
Why You Need an Email List
1. To connect with your readers-Building, a relationship with your readers is crucial, and this is the perfect way to do it.
Don’t be afraid to share personal stories with them about your kids, pets, or even something funny that happened to you. We are all human and connecting with each other is essential.
2. Selling your products/services-When, you have a subscriber list; there is no reason for you to sell your product or service hard. These people are your “tribe” and will be excited to hear about your next book or new promotion for your service.
3. To help grow your audience-You never know when a subscriber will recommend your book, product, or service to a friend. In doing this, their friend may subscribe to your newsletter.
There are many reasons why having an email list is crucial to your business. However, the biggest thing to remember is to give people value and have fun.
Do you have a newsletter? Why or why not? Do you think they are essential to an online business? Why or why not? I would love to know your thoughts in the comments.
