I wanted to encourage you, my reader. Maybe your year didn’t go as you planned. It’s okay, mine didn’t exactly go the way I planned either. Life just got in the way.
We all have weeks, months or sometimes years where we don’t accomplish as much as we want. Does this mean we quit? No way!
I encourage you to set goals for next year and not to be afraid of them. Goals keep us moving forward, no matter how long it takes. If you have been disappointed in your progress so far, these tips my help you in the future.
Tips for setting goals:
Pick only 2 or 3 you want to accomplish in a year.
Write out your big why. This is the reason you want to accomplish this goal in the first place. This is like your mission statement and will keep you going when things get tough.
Break things down into small bites. Write out your steps.
Dreams are goals without a date. Make sure you have a solid date of completion for all your goals. Or at least the first few steps.
For example, if you’re writing a book you may want to have your research done by February, your rough draft done by June and your cover done by July.
Choose one or two people that you trust and will encourage you to pursue your goal. Having friends to cheer you on is important, but being your own cheerleader is just as important.
You only fail if you don’t try in the first place. You will have snags and things that go wrong, this is part of achieving a goal. As I have heard a lot of successful people say, fail and fail often.
None of these people have had a straight path to success. Learn from your mistakes and move on. Success does not mean that you don’t fail, it means that you learn from your failures and keep trying.
I have failed many times being an independent author. Things like not having a launch and marketing plan, not working on my social media presence, and not offering readers my books in various formats are some of my failures. However, I am changing this.
Decide on rewards. Choose both big and small. Get a coffee, smoothie, or something else you enjoy. Go out to dinner and celebrate. Remember, every little bit of progress counts, no matter how big or small. Celebrate everything.
No matter what you are pursuing this year I’m right behind you. I’m cheering you on and am here to help you in any way I can. If I can’t answer a question, I will find someone who can. Charge fearlessly into the new year. Together, we’ve got this!
I’m not saying it’s going to be perfect. Put a plan in place to crush your goals this year. I’m cheering for you all the way. What are some of your goals for the new year? I would love to encourage you on your journey. Please leave a comment and let me know.
