Today I thought I would write an interview with the author. I’m going to ask some of my author friends if they would be willing to participate. For now I thought I would kick things off. I always like to know more about my favorite authors so I thought I would give you a little more insight on me.
How long have you been writing?
I have been writing since I was nine years old. English composition was my favorite class in school. I didn’t live near my friends growing up so I would sit in my room and write all the time.
What is your writing background?
As I said, I have been writing since a young age. While in junior high school I wrote for the local newspaper in Pennsylvania where I lived. After high school, I took a year off and then started college for a degree in Journalism. I had to drop out due to struggling in the math courses. I knew I would never get through it even though that was part of the degree program. While I was in college, I wrote for both the school and local newspapers. I have a Freelance Writing certificate from Penn Foster Career School and I have published three books, Lithium Dreams And Melancholy Sunrise, The Safety Of Objects, and Don’t Eat Your Boogers (You’ll Turn Green). I also have my Associate’s in Early Childhood Education.
Where do you get your ideas?
I get a lot of my ideas from things I have lived, situations I have been in and people I have known. Sometimes something just pops in my head and I have to go write it down.
What is your next book about?
My next book is about a country singer who loses it all and has to find his way back to the spot light. It is going really well and I am looking forward to publishing it.
Who are some of your favorite authors?
I love anything by Debbie Macomber or Nicholas Sparks. I also like John Grisham and James Patterson. I read all kinds of books so I have a lot of favorite authors. Other authors who come to mind include Dave Ramsey, Jon Acuff, Belinda G. Buchanan, Nora Roberts, Karen Kingsbury, Neta Jackson and the list goes on and on. 🙂
What are you currently reading?
I’m currently reading The Yada Yada Prayer Group by Neta Jackson. It is the first book in the series and I am absolutely loving it.
What are some of your favorite books?
The Blossom Street Series by Debbie Macomber
The Notebook by Nicholas Sparks
The Total Money Makeover by Dave Ramsey
Quitter by Jon Acuff
Seasons Of Darkness and After All Is Said And Done by Belinda G. Buchannan
And the list goes on and on. 🙂
When you’re not writing, how do you spend your time?
I love to cook and bake. I also enjoy going out with friends and connecting with long distance friends on Facebook. I love going to both Barnes & Noble and used bookstores, my other happy places when I’m not writing. I also like to hang out at home with my husband, cat and rabbit.
What else should we know about you?
I am a chocoholic, love all kinds of music (especially Christian metal), I hate horror movies but love romantic comedies and I have a serious crush on both Steven Tyler of Aerosmith and Jay Leno. They come in second and third behind my husband. 🙂
What advice do you have for other aspiring authors?
Write because you love it. Don’t focus on the money. We are all in the same boat as to whether things will take off or not. So do it because you love it and you couldn’t imagine doing anything else.
If you self-publish, do your research. There are good and bad companies out there. Join a writing group of some kind online, it is wonderful when you need support or to just bounce things off of people.
Writing can be a lonely profession and it doesn’t help when we are around people that just don’t get it. It’s not their fault, it’s just that they are not us, so they don’t understand our struggles.
Research your writing community and join a group. In person feedback is always good too. Celebrate every sale. Don’t give up and have fun with it.
