Spring has sprung and the weather is starting to turn nicer. Marketing your books as an author is always a priority, but when the weather turns nice, it’s always fun to be out and about at different author events.
This is the most fun for me, meeting people and talking about all things writing, both with those who attend and also fellow authors. Here are some ideas on where to find author events in your area.
Check out the local library
Call your local library and see if they offer any author events that you can attend. If not, offer to donate copies of your books and do a book signing. You could also offer to hold a class on self-publishing a book. Another idea is to gather your author friends and offer to do a group book signing.
Contact Your Local Barnes & Noble
Call your local Barnes & Noble and ask when they have local author events and how you can participate. Most of the time, if your books are in the system, they will order copies to have on hand for you for the day of the event. I attended one of these recently as an author and had a great time.
Contact Your Local Independent Bookstores
Never underestimate the power of an independent bookstore. These are great places to sell your books on consignment and many will have local author events once or twice a year.
Look for Local Writer’s Groups Online
Do a Facebook search for “Writer’s groups in your area.” and see what they are all about. Join one and that way everyone can share author events both locally and in other areas.
Contact Your Local Community College
Call the local community college English department and see if they can tell you about any author events that are unique to the college but open to local authors to participate in.
In using these tips, you should be able to find author events in your area easily. Have fun and put yourself out there, you’re next big fan is waiting.
